Picky Eaters & Baby Pandas…How They’re Similar

Picky Eaters & Baby Pandas…How They’re Similar

                • Until recently, I didn’t realize how similar our kids are to baby pandas. Last weekend, we went with the family to the zoo and stopped by the panda exhibit. They’re cute and cuddly but need constant attention. Early on, they reject a lot of foods (even bamboo!) and caretakers constantly worry about their health and development. Sound more like your kid now (yup, my hand’s going up)?

Baby Pandas = Our Kids

I love my 5-year-old son, Harry, to death but sitting down to eat with him is like suiting up for battle. That spaghetti he loved last week? Yeah, that was last week. Broccoli? Hah, forget about that!

When it comes to food, last week might as well be a lifetime ago. He makes me wonder how the human race has survived for so long (hint: it’s moms like you).

Sometimes, I worry about him. Is he getting the proper nutrients? Is he growing like he should? Like all mothers, I want him to be the best he can be. On the playground, in the classroom, and on the basketball court.

Do you feel this way with your kids? I feel that way for sure. Somedays, I wonder how other parents do it. I wonder…can I even do it? I knew I had to find some help...

The Not-So-Secret, Secret

All my friends are going through the same thing. Every time we get together, it’s like a mini Dr. Phil therapy session.

So many of them swore by kids vitamins. They told me to still try with my picky eater but to use vitamins to help to fill in the gaps when Harry only wants chicken nuggets (you know those days).

I started asking around for recommendations and First Day kept popping up. Friends mentioned how the founder, Alice, designed kids vitamins to help other women like her, and I loved that.

Once my five-year-old, Harry, started taking them, things actually got easier. After a few weeks, I was honestly surprised by how much a difference I felt in our daily life.

My boy loved them. I forgot about them a few mornings (it was before my coffee!) and he made sure to remind me.

He was on much better behavior and I could just see that he was healthier. During cold and flu season, he got sick much less often.

Honestly, I felt so much better too. It’s not that everything magically got easier, but I finally had some help in my crazy life!

Still, I had some lingering questions about vitamins.

There were still a few simple questions on my mind. Does he even need vitamins? How do I know if the vitamin is doing anything?

After doing some research, it turns out that almost all kids need extra nutrition. The best way to get nutrients is still through food like fresh fruits and vegetables.

But the problem is that kids are surrounded by junk food everywhere. At school, on the go, on television commercials… the list goes on.

A study conducted by The CDC said that 93% of kids in the U.S. don’t get enough daily fruits and veggies. It’s near impossible for kids to eat the way they should.

And I was confused about what exactly vitamins do. It turns out that they help with many things like immune support, bone growth, and brain development, but a lot of it is hard to see. I learned that it can take weeks or even months to see or feel a difference.

The body has to change first, and the most important parts change over time.

It’s unusual what I saw with my kiddo but not unheard of. Sometimes it can take a little longer but the benefits are long lasting.

What's Good About First Day?

I’m a research obsessed mom so you bet I did my homework on this one. The more I read, the better I felt.

From articles, I found out that First Day started by investigating over 35,000 studies to develop their vitamin (I’ve met my match with them!). They work with Harvard and Yale pediatricians and nutritionists so I knew smart minds worked on this.

It was easy to tell First Day made their vitamins with health at the center after looking through their ingredients.

It’s not filled with chemicals you can’t pronounce but instead with organic fruits and vegetables. It had none of the artificial colors, sugars, flavors that I saw in other brands.

Something that really mattered to me was not getting a vitamin sugar bomb. Our kids are getting enough of that everywhere else in their life!

They use up to 80% less sugar than the other brands I saw, and that’s definitely something I can get behind.

One thing that fascinated me is that they did extensive research to understand what our children are most lacking in their daily lives and specifically formulated with those vitamins to make sure they get exactly what they need.

I felt like this was such a thoughtful approach to fit into our daily lives. They weren’t trying to replace our job as a parent but rather provide the desperately needed helping hand with our picky eaters to balance things out.

Want To Try?

Want To Try?

Want To Try?

I’ve always been a skeptic, but I’m so glad my friends helped me discover First Day. I want to pass it on and share my experience with you.

Things are still crazy in my growing household and I wouldn’t trade it for the world (okay, fine… maybe sometimes). But I found a partner in them for one of my biggest worries – my boy’s health. I couldn’t be happier.

The best thing about it? It’s all for less than $1/day.
